One Health

One Health is a concept that recognises that the health of humans, animals and the environment are all unified and interconnected. This approach utilises multidisciplinary expertise and resources in a coordinated and collaborative manner, addressing, with regard to antimicrobial stewardship, the regulation and registration of antibiotics, and the use of guidelines for infection control and the prudent use of antibiotics, with the ultimate aim of reducing the threat of antimicrobial resistance in all sectors. There are several bodies within Australia that promote One Health approaches to research and policy-making, including the Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) and Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA), which have established special interest groups for this topic.
